Honeywell Non-Programmable Thermostat Review
Best Non-Programmable Thermostat

A Great Option for Those Who Want Pure Simplicity

We don’t all need something high-tech, do we? Some of us don’t even care if we’re able to program our thermostats at all. Though I have to admit that I am a fan of highly programmable thermostats, I also have to acknowledge that my lifestyle plays a big role in that preference. I’m not home very much and I am extremely conscious of my consumption levels. Therefore, I find it very important to be able to set my thermostat to pre-programmed temperatures and times.

I once thought that everyone would feel the same as me. That is, until I spoke with my sister-in-law about this very topic. I was going on and on about how everyone needs a thermostat like mine. “What are you talking about?” she said. She pointed out to me that, as someone who works from home, she really doesn’t need a thermostat with all those bells and whistles. “Why would I spend extra money for those features when I can just walk across the room and change the temperature myself?” she asked.

She had a great point. Call me self-centered if you want (don’t worry, I won’t mind), but I sincerely had never placed myself into shoes quite like hers before. I simply couldn’t see a situation where someone may not want the same ultra-high-tech thermostat I had my eyes on. Now I see, though, that there are many people out there who just want something plain and basic.

Whether you work from home, hate complicated technology, or just like to stick with the cheapest option you can find, I figure you’re here because you are looking for something simple. In my opinion, this Honeywell thermostat is the best of all the very basic, non-programmable thermostats available today.

Basic Settings

OK, so you’re here to learn about this thermostat. I have to be honest: I really don’t have much to tell you. That’s because it is so basic. I mean, if I had a whole ton of stuff to say about this thermostat, it would obviously have more features and functions that you would be looking for.

You can use this to control both your heating and cooling systems. A quick flick of a switch will move between heating, cooling, and off. Once you’ve chosen your setting (heating or cooling) you can adjust the set temperature by pressing the up or down arrow on the side of the control panel. The LCD display will tell you the current temperature in the room. When you press the up or down arrow the set temperature will pop up so you can see where you have it set.

You can also choose to just turn the fan on to circulate air throughout your home. I suggest doing this every now and then if you go for extended periods of time without your heating or cooling system on. Dust can accumulate in air ducts and cause problems. Turning the fan on helps to get the dust out to a place where you can collect it more easily as you clean your home. The fan will also keep air from becoming to stale.

Easy All Around

Not only is this an easy thermostat to use, it is also very easy to install. Actual consumers, even those without experience in electrical work, report having installed this thermostat in under ten minutes! The instruction booklet which comes with the thermostat states that it should take about 15 minutes to install, but people claim it’s so easy that it doesn’t take nearly that long. That very same instruction booklet is what will walk you through the process, step-by-step so that you need not ask for any help.

Best for Forced Air

I want to come right out and say it here – this thermostat is not made for use with electric baseboards or heat pump systems. If you are working with either of those types of heating systems, you will need to look elsewhere for a compatible thermostat.

Overall

I honestly think this was one of my shortest articles on this website. I believe that’s because this thermostat is so simple it requires little explanation. If you want basic functions and don’t want to fuss around with high-tech options, this is certainly the way to go.
